Workforce Training Opportunities
  • Commonwealth of Virginia's Workforce Services program offers customized recruiting and training to companies that are creating new jobs or experiencing technological change.
  • State Funded Program
  • Consulting services and video production
  • Available to companies that create a minimum of 25 new jobs or make a capital investment of at least $1,000,000 within a one-year period

Virginia Community College System
  • The Christanna Campus of the Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is located within Lake Country at Alberta in Brunswick County. Residents of Halifax County and western Mecklenburg are also within easy driving distance of the Keysville Campus of SVCC or Danville Community College.
    Community colleges offer:
    • Occupational technical programs at the post-secondary adult level
    • Apprenticeship training

WorkKeys
  • A collaborative effort between the Southside Virginia Community Colleges, High Schools in in the three-county area of Lake Country (brunswick, halifax, and Mecklenburg) and area industries and employers. In this program educators and business work together to strengthen and advance workplace skills
    WorkKeys is a three-step process
    • Job Profiling -- an on-site determination of the skill requirements of specified jobs
    • Testing -- to determine the current skills of company employees and high school students
    • Skills Gap Training -- After a determination has been made through testing that a person does not have the skills for his or her job. This trianing provides the needed skills.

Mobile Training Unit
  • In order to facilitate the Skills-Gap Training component of WorkKeys, a Mobile Training Unit is available to provide on-site training service to local industries

  • Offers residents affordable degree and non-degree programs, as well as, workforce training opprotunities
